Although I initially intended to incorporate butterflies within the Insects, Reptiles, and Primates section of my blog, upon further reflection I believe it is more fitting to give these beautiful creatures their own dedicated page for Peninsular Malaysias unique species.
There are some 160,000 species of moths in the world, compared to 17,500 species of butterflies. In the United States, there are nearly 11,000 species of moths. - Smithsonian Institution
Peninsular Malaysia has about 1,038 species of butterfly ( this is the figure I read from one of the article in PERHILITAN journal dated 2018). How many moth species? I don't have the actual number yet and hopefully I could get an update soon. Do we have any endemic butterflies or moths?
Genting Highlands at least 214 species recorded
Take a look at the photos I have collected from my trips in Peninsular Malaysia. I hope you use this as a reference for identification. You can also enlarge the photo by clicking on it. There are some species which contains more than 1 photo, you can click on the numbers on the right side of each species photo.
